I work at the intersection of signal processing, system modeling and machine learning, combining methodological research with applied research and technology transfer.
About me
I am Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Director of the Signal Processing Applications Group (GAPS-UPM). My background is in Telecommunication Engineering and digital signal processing, and my work has progressively connected system modeling, speech and audio, communications, machine learning and applied R&D.
I am particularly interested in problems where observations are used to understand, identify or control complex signal-generating systems, and in approaches that combine interpretable models with data-driven learning.

Background
MEng in Telecommunication Engineering (2007), MSc in Communication Technologies and Systems (2009), and PhD in Engineering (2013, International Mention, cum laude), all from UPM.
Research stays include Oxford University, Université Libre de Bruxelles and ITEFI-CSIC.
Beyond academia
Industry collaboration and technology transfer have been a continuous part of my work, including research contracts, product development and entrepreneurship. Selected activities include PhoneDrive/Drivies, Shazura and the creation of AcopiaLab.
